Abstract

Discrepancy in product representation in advertisements frequently occurs. Entrepreneurs often engage in visual modification of food products when advertising through digital platforms. Product discrepancy in advertisements is a significant issue concerning consumer rights that must be protected. This research is categorized as normative legal research, utilizing primary legal materials including laws and regulations, as well as secondary legal materials such as expert opinions, books, and journals. Indonesia has implemented various laws to protect consumers. However, these regulations are not comprehensive enough to fully shield consumers from deceptive practices or fraud committed by businesses through visual modifications of products. Visual modification in advertisements can involve alterations in color, typography, visual elements, composition, special effects, and descriptive wording. The manipulation of product representations in advertisements goes beyond just images, covering all the words, information, and supporting visuals used to explain or depict a product. Consumer protection and advertising laws in Indonesia do not completely safeguard consumers from deception through the practice of visually modifying products. Therefore, additional regulations are necessary regarding visual modifications of ready-to-eat food products and the representation of food products in advertisements. Businesses should avoid manipulating visual aspects of products to the detriment of consumers. Businesses must uphold integrity when creating food product advertisements that are honest, transparent, and informative. Consumers also need more education about violations within the practice of visually modifying representations of food products in advertisements. Consequently, a fair and healthy business environment is established, ensuring comprehensive consumer protection.
