Abstract

The protracted conflict in Syria has caused millions of people to become refugees, seeking refuge in neighboring countries including Turkey. However, the Turkish government violated the principle of non-refoulement, which is one of the basic principles of refugee protection contained in the 1951 Geneva Convention and the 1967 New York Protocol. This research aims to analyze what efforts Syrian refugees can take in facing expulsion by the Turkish government. The research method used is normative, namely by analyzing legal regulations, documents and literature studies to explore information related to principles of non-refoulement, refugee rights, the Turkish government's policy towards Syrian refugees, as well as the efforts and challenges faced by refugees. Findings suggest that Syrian refugees can employ a variety of strategies, including the use of media and public campaigns, filing complaints with courts, and cooperation with international organizations such as UNHCR. However, they also face challenges such as limited access to the courts, legal uncertainty, and the ongoing risk of eviction. Therefore, the protection of the rights of Syrian refugees and the fulfillment of the principle of non-refoulement needs to be strengthened through support from international organizations and advocacy for better protection of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
