Abstract

Tourism development, in one side tourism gives a positive impact for the economic, but tourism developments also have a negative effect for the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to safeguard the environment by the hotel, as one of the supporting elements of tourism development. Besides aiming to preserve the environment, development of environmentally sustainable tourism can also be used as a tourism promotion to increase the number of tourists staying at the hotel. Research on the implementation of environmental protection and management of the hotel in order to develop tourism in the city of Yogyakarta aims to find out how the role of hotels in the implementation and management of environmental protection and to determine the constraints faced by the hotel in the implementation and management of environmental protection in order to develop tourism in the City Yogyakarta. As we know, hotel activities can have a negative impact on the environment because of hotel produce waste, both liquid and solid wastes in large numbers and are harmful to the environment. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the implementation of environmental protection and management of the hotel in order to develop tourism in the city of Yogyakarta implemented through measures such as energy conservation, efficiency of water use, maintain air quality within the hotel and the hotel waste, both waste liquid or waste. Problems faced by the hotel include the high cost of procurement of waste treatment technologies to be borne by the hotel, bad bureaucracy in the process of issuing permits for the construction of new hotels and the low awareness by the hotels guest to the importance of the environment.
