Abstract
Kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix D. C.) is a citrus plant that is generally used as a flavor enhancer in food and beverages. This plant is native to Indonesia, which contains flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, steroids and tannins. This study aims to determine the ability of antibacterial extract lime leaves against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Theresearch design was completely randomized treatment with various concentrations of methanol extract lime leaves. The research begins with drying leaves the oven at a temperature of 45 ˚C, pulverizing the mesh 61, and extraction by maceration for 48 hours with methanol. This study uses a completely randomized design with treatments in variation concentrations of 12,5, 25, and 50% concentration were then used to test the antibacterial activity. Inhibition zone formed from extracts with concentrations of 12,5, 25, and 50% against Pseudomonas aeruginosa respectively were 0,605, 1,132, and 1,934 cm2, whereas against Staphylococcus epidermidis produced successive inhibition zone were 0.518, 0.837, and 1.251 cm2. Based on the research that has been done a concentration of 50% was the concentration of the most effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Then the smallest concentration of inhibitory zone, was 12,5% followed by the MIC test. Based on the results obtained by the MIC value for both types of bacteria is was 7,5%.
