Abstract
ABSTRACT Culture is very important especially when encountered with the courtesy of relationship among people from various nations. Culture also implied national identity that differentiable between the countries. This study aims at identifying a nation identity through a survey of a university students that had a variety of background including ethnics and regions. A sample of 76 of civil engineering students were obtained in this study. Instruments of culture dimension were adopted from five Hofstede and Hall. Results of thestudy identified that the national culture of Indonesia based on five dimension from Hofstede and Hall has the scale of 35, 58, 41, 49, and 67 for, power distance, individualism, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity, and long term orientation respectively. The study found that there was no significant different of the five national culture dimensions between the ethnics of Java, Chinese, and other. The study also found that there were no significant different between each culture dimension against ethnics of Java, Chinese and others. This implied that the national identity has been solid among the ethnics. With the diversity of ethnics and sub culture in the region, Indonesia currently considered the lowest power distance among the Asian countries
