Abstract

This study entitled “juridical study of the disabled in obtaining legal aid”. aims to find out how the legal policy of people with disabilities who are categorized as Free Legal Recipients. This research uses normative research methods that supported by library materials and interviews. Interviews were conducted with several resource persons including Dr. G. Widiartana S.H., M. Hum as a Criminal Law Expert and Lecturer at Atma Jaya Faculty of Law Yogyakarta and Sipora Purwanti as advocacy division in SIGAB (Sasana Inklusif dan Gerakan Advokasi Difabel) in Yogyakarta. This study shows that the alignment of the Legal Aid Law and the Disability Law by interpreting extensively the word “poor”. Persons with disabilities can be categorized as subject of the Legal Aid and have the right to access legal assistance free of charge. The legal policies governing disability categorized as recipients of legal aid have been harmonized
