Abstract
Column demands of special concentrically braced frames (SCBFs) were investigated by Richards (2009). In low-rise SCBFs with braces in the two-story X-configuration, column demands were up to 100% greater than those commonly used in the design because of force redistribution that occurs after brace buckling. The 2005 AISC Seismic Provisions do not require columns to be designed for the maximum force that can be delivered to them if
