Abstract

Kulon Progo Regency is one of the five regencies / cities in the Special Province of Yogyakarta, has exploration potential in the mining sector, especially andesite rocks with compressive strength of 1138.47 kg per square centimeter, the wear rate is 13.5 percent and specific gravity is 2, 7, so that the andesite stone in Kulon Progo has very good. At present, several companies have carried out andesite mining exploration.The presence of the mining business has a positive impact on increasing the income of Kulon Progo Regency PAD and improving welfare, especially for communities around the mine area. In addition to the positive impact, mining exploration also has potential negative impacts, especially in the environmental aspects. Therefore, the role of local government is needed to provide guidance, monitor and enforce the rules so that mining businesses comply with the provisions on environmental aspects.The purpose of this study was to determine the level of supervision of the Environmental Service and its obstacles to andesite mining activities. We hope that the results of this study can be an input for the environmental service in enhancing supervision and prevention of the negative impacts of mining businesses, especially from the environmental aspects. This research concludes with the suggestion that the DLH of Kulonprogo Regency needs to increase the number of Human Resources to supervise andesite mining activities, more intensely socialize regulations or licenses in the mining sector to andesite mining actors, and give award mining environmental management to mining players for their success implementation of mining activities and environmental management programs Keywords: andesite mine, environmental pollution, supervision
