Abstract
The title of legal writing the author took is consideration of the judges in defamation settlement through the mass media. Freedom of speech and expression in accordance with the right and conscience to obtain information, was the most real human rights. Sometimes, The provision of information that does not exactly make the criminal. This act is called contempt. So for those who harmed sue in court because they felt humiliated. Judges should be able to know the elements of the accused insult the violated rights of free speech. Violation of the rights to freedom of opinion is not always a criminal contempt. For the press in providing information to readers also have a legal protection. For the press to do job properly and did not violate the code of ethics journalists press coverage does not violate the rights of freedom of speech. The purpose of this legal research is to research and find out the judges considerations accordance with the principles of free speech protections guaranteed by the law. In this research the author uses the normative method is based on literature study. From the results of research that has been alone to get the author considered the author made by qualified judges in action against the law and the amount of compesation.
