Abstract

Hoax is an information that is not based on facts or data, but deceptions with the intention to trick people into the spread model of the massif. The spread of hoax news in Indonesia, including on DIY through social media, the role of DIY police is required in tackling the spread of hoax news because it can give negative impact to the community, A split example within the community. The problem formulation in this research is whether the police effort in tackling hoaxes through social media and whether police barriers or obstacles in tackling hoaxes through social media. The research methods used are normative legal research methods. From the research can be concluded that the role of the DIY police in the effort to tackle hoax news through social media by making preventive efforts and repressive efforts. The preventive efforts of socialization conducted to the public, the socialization is given to schoolchildren, students, and communities who often use social media and form a Cyber patrol task force in charge of Supervising information technology that is spreading in the community, monitoring a news spread in the community and blocking the site of a proven hoax, and the repressive effort in the form of follow-up perpetrators of criminal acts, by means of Conduct law enforcement to the perpetrators of the hoax news. Barriers faced in the form of obstacles in terms of human resources or law enforcement officials, infrastructure facilities namely the lack of digital forensic equipment and facet of society does not understand the impact of hoaxes.
