Abstract

The title of this research is “The Role of the Communities of the Legal Protection Geographical Indication of Salak Pondoh Sleman in the Utilization of Geographical Indication of Salak Pondoh Sleman Jogja”. This research aims to analyze the exclusive rights utilization of the geographical indication of Salak Pondoh Sleman Jogja by communities of the legal protection geographical indication of Salak Pondoh Sleman, and to explain the obstacle to utilization of the geographical indication exclusive rights. The research used is empirical legal research, that focusing on primary data. The conclusion of this research is that the geographical indication exclusive rights have been utilized, using by take a economic value, guidance to local producers, supervision, and lawsuit for violation of geographical indication, but not optimal yet because it has been obstacle. The obstacle to utilization of the geographical indication exclusive rights come from oudside of communities, that is disturbed of reputation of Salak Pondoh Sleman Jogja because not do supervision of violation of geographical indication.
