Abstract

Crime is a social problem faced by all countries, including in Indonesia, and one of the crimes that often occurs is violence. According to Indonesia's Criminal Policy, to minimize the number of violent crimes that occur, the government of the Republic of Indonesia provides guidance to perpetrators of crimes based on Law Number 22 of 2022 concerning Correctional Institutions. The purpose of implementing this correctional system is for convicts to receive guidance and make criminals aware of their mistakes. This is contrary to the facts that occur. Acts of violence and physical pressure still often occur among prisoners. Therefore, the authors conducted this research with the aim of understanding the causes of acts of violence between prisoners and obtaining data and reviewing policies to protect victims of violence between prisoners, especially in Class IIB Women's Correctional Institution in Yogyakarta. The type of research used is normative legal research, it is conducted by interviewing informants. The results of the interviews are that there were still acts of violence between prisoners in the Class IIB Women's Correctional Institution in Yogyakarta. The form of violence that occurs is non�physical or verbal violence which is caused by differences in personality between prisoners, misunderstandings and even thievery. The policy of legal protection for victims of violence between prisoners at the Class IIB Women's Prison in Yogyakarta by separating victims and perpetrators of violence between prisoners, providing educational sanctions, and providing the widest possible opportunity to be able to submit complaints or complaints. Legal protection for victims of inter�prison violence based on Law Number 22 of 2022 concerning Correctional Institutions in Class IIB Yogyakarta Women's Prison has been carried out, but has not been able to run optimally because there are still forms of verbal violence that have a major effect on the psychology of prisoners.
