Abstract

Online prostitution is the practice of prostitution carried out with or through internet or online media as a transaction infrastructure for those users and users who want to use their services. In the Yogyakarta area, the difficulty for the police to uncover online prostitution syndicates is because most of the prostitution pimps or pimps are not located in Yogyakarta but outside the city of Yogyakarta. This study aims to determine the role of the police and the obstacles faced by the DIY police in dealing with online prostitution. The method in this research is the method of sociological law or empirical law. The data in this study are primary data and secondary data. Data analysis was carried out in a descriptive perspective. The results showed that (1) the role of the DIY police in overcoming online prostitution was divided into two, namely: the non-penal role was preventive and the penal role in the form of repressive actions. (2) the constraints of the DIY police in dealing with online prostitution are internal constraints in the form of a lack of police personnel in the area who specifically uncover cases of online prostitution. The external constraint is the difficulty of catching pimps from different cities and the women they sell.
