Abstract

Society is one of components that is very important in reaching the purpose of socialization. Participation of society is regulated in general explanation of the Law Number 12 in 1995 about Socialization. In fact, society does not yet fully participate in convict founding shown in the forms of being apathetic and paying less attention to the convict. The purpose of this research is to know participation of society in realizing the purpose of socialization by using the empirical research method taken from primary and secondary data. Result shows that society plays role only through some institutions, either governmental or non governmental ones, meanwhile, society’s role as a social group being involved in the convicts founding is not shown. The researcher proposes two suggestions. First, the officers of correctional institution should invite the whole societies, not only those from institutional but also from non institutional ones. Second, there should be a concern from non instituional society to be willing to take part in the convict founding, so that the purpose of socialization can be reached.
