Abstract
Waste is residual material that is produced from an activity carried out by humans. The problem of waste is very closely related to the environment in the world of health, one of which is the waste generated by hospitals, both medical and nonmedical waste can cause disease and pollution of the surrounding environment, therefore this waste, including disposable mask waste, requires treatment before being discharged into environment. The problem formulations in this research are; how is the implementation of disposable mask infectious waste management in the era of covid - 19 in order to prevent environmental pollution in Batam City and what are the obstacles and what are the solutions in implementing disposable mask infectious waste management in the Covid-19 era in order to prevent environmental pollution in Batam City. The methods used in this research is empirical research methods. The results of this research shows that the implementation of disposable mask infectious waste management at BP Batam Hospital has been carried out well but not optimal because those who manage waste are still negligent in carrying out waste management and patients still do not understand the difference between infectious and non-infectious waste. Obstacles in the management of infectious waste disposable masks in the era of covid 19 at BP Batam Hospital are the lack of infectious waste bins, delays in transporting infectious waste and cleaning services who are still negligent in managing waste, patients who are contaminated with COVID-19 are still lacking understand the sorting of trash bins provided by the hospital such as infectious and non-infectious trash cans.
