Abstract

Tanah Bumbu Regency is one of the areas in South Kalimantan, Indonesia, which is known as the "Industrial Regency" because of its diverse industrial activities, especially in the mining sector, both mineral and coal. This research aims to understand the supervision carried out by the Environmental Service on the environmental impacts of coal mining companies and to identify obstacles and solutions that can be implemented in this supervision in an effort to prevent environmental pollution in Tanah Bumbu Regency. The type of research carried out is empirical legal research, which focuses on social facts in the field. This research was conducted by interacting directly with respondents to obtain primary data, which was then supported by secondary data from various legal sources. The research results show that the supervision carried out by the Tanah Bumbu Regency Environmental Service regarding the environmental impacts of coal mining companies is quite good through direct and indirect supervision. However, this supervision is not yet optimal because there are several obstacles, such as limited human resources and the budget allocated by management for environmental management and monitoring. Efforts to increase supervision need to be made so that the negative impacts of mining activities can be minimized.
