Abstract

Plantain squirrel (Callosciurus notatus) is a tree squirrel species which discovered in Wanagama I forest. The study about this animal in that location is not yet to do. Wheares, the information about their life in Wanagama I forest is useful for their population control. This study are purpose to know the total density of this animal, utilitation of tree crown stratification and to know their habitat characteristic. It was conducted during from September to October in 1998. The collecting data of total density was used concentration metod and for to know the utilitation of tree crown stratification was used scanning metod. The results of this study were there are 26 individuals of tree squirrel in Wanagama I forest with the total density is 0,33 individuals /ha. The proportion of utilitation of each tree crown stratification for their activities is significant. The conclution of this study are the total density of tree squirrel is 0,33 individuals / ha, the tree crown stratification that often to use as eat pleace are almost of all, except the upper outer part and the under outer part; wheares as the resting pleace the animal often to use the upper inner part, the upper outer part, middle inner part tree crown stratification; and the middle forest stratification is central of the animal activities. There are 20 species of trees as food resources and 29 species of trees as the resting pleace that used by this animal.
