Abstract

Agricultural extension activities have a very strategic position in agricultural development. Agricultural extension will run well when the three components of the basic resources, education and farming actors can interact properly so that it can resolve issues. East Nusa Tenggara is one of the provinces that most of population are farmers. With a wide geographical area and an archipelago, of course make agricultural extension activities have constraints in delivering information to remote areas. This research tries to develop an agricultural extension applications that take better advantage of the use of information and communication technology in this case using the SMS Gateway services in an effort to help the agricultural extension activities especially horticultural crops in distance mode with quickly and accurately process of delivering information, which can be obtained when and anywhere as far as there is no problem with the condition of network. This application constructed using the method of Unified Process, Java programming language NetBeansIDE 7.3.1, MySQL as the database management system and Gammu as the software to support SMS Gateway application development. Based on the test results of 10 farmers and 10 extension it can be concluded that 75% of this system can contribute both to farmers and extension workers to perform agricultural extension in distance mode.
