Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the role of the police in handling criminal cases of motor vehicle theft. Motor vehicle theft is a crime that has a rate that is still high in the city of Yogyakarta. Starting from the description, authors would like to examine further the rule of the police as law enforcement in maintaining security, maintain order, enforce the law, as well as providing protection, guidance, and service to the community by writing laws that entitled the rule of the police in handling criminal cases of motor vehicle theft. The formulation of the issues raised by the author in writing this law is how the rule of the police in handling criminal cases of theft of motor vehicle and any obstacles faced by the police in solving cases of theft of motor vehicle. Legal research is conducted aiming to identify and analyze the roles and constrains faced by the police in dealing with motor vehicle theft in the city of Yogyakarta. role of the police in handling criminal cases of motor vehicle theft appears police efforts made both repressive and preventive.
