Abstract

Tenun ikat Sumba or weaving of indonesia has very abundant, unique, and interesting motifs. Those motifs/patterns of the tenun ikat describe symbol and attribute of ancestral cultures of Sumba people and each of the motifs and patterns has its own meaning which possibly cannot be found in the other countries. However in the use of this tenun ikat, there are no many people especially the youth and tourits knowing how the origin of tenun ikat Sumba. Or even to know further about type of the motifs and philosophical meaning in them. From the background, the writer wants to develop an Application for Classifyng Motifs for Sumba weaving textile by applying a Wavelet method for extracting characteristics of the motifs in the first process and also the imitation of their fiber network by using Backpropagation momentum for their classification. This application is hopefully able to give special service and information to the people either as local people or stangers who eager to get more information about the weaving textile in Sumba regions.
