Abstract

Traditional Intellectual Property Rights is one of property rights which are owned by the traditional society arising or born because intellectual ability or sense of traditional society, such as, knowledge, art, literature and technology which require the sacrifice of power to make it happen, time, cost and mind. One example of the results of the traditional intellectual property of traditional communities it is traditional stringed instruments Sasando. Sasando traditional stringed musical instrument has a characteristic of the shape and the resulting sound , its made by using the natural ingredients in the island of Rote, East Nusa Tenggara. This uniqueness must be maintained , preserved and protected by the various parties. Based from the description above, the formulation of the problem and the purpose of this paper is to see whether the existing legal protection of Intellectual Property Rights over Traditional Musical Instruments Traditional Sasando, how the steps taken by the Government of East Nusa Tenggara in protecting intellectual property rights over the traditional musical instrument Sasando and how the traditional role of the Government of East Nusa Tenggara to the indigenous peoples of the island of Rote that had been developing and preserving the traditional musical instrument Sasando
