Abstract

The problem of this writing is “To know the application of sovereignty principles according to UNCLOS 1982 in the case of submarine cable installment located off Anambas and Natuna islands by Malaysia. As a coastal state and an archipelago state, Indonesia has sovereignty over land, inland waters, and archipelagic waters, this sovereignty extends to the air space over the territorial sea as well as to its bed and subsoil. Cable Landing Station (CLS) is a place where sub marine fiber optic cable carrier goes to the mainland and then distributed to Network Access Provider or to Internet Service Provider. This means malaysia has violated Indonesian sovereignty. Indonesia must tightens surveillance at Anambas and Natuna islands also the other border areas. In case of submarine optical cable installment located in Anambas and Natuna islands by Malaysia, the principle of Indonesian sovereignty has been violated with the construction of the Landing Station, because this submarine cables were planted without permission. This scientific writing uses the Normative Legal method that means data collection including secondary data from legal documents, books and other data that also provide the necessary information for the writing.
