Abstract
New Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA) is an airport located in Kulon Progo that will replace Adisutjipto Airport because Adisutjipto Airport is over capacity and can’t longer accommodate many passengers every year. In carrying out airport construction it should be pay attention in every aspect include environmental aspects. In preventing or to minimize the damage of the construction, Environmental Impact Assessment or Indonesia called it AMDAL is needed as one of the instruments to preserve the environment , to know the positive and negative effects of a business or activity and in this case is to find out about the good and bad effect from the airport construction for environmental sustainability. This research is an empirical law, with a focus on interviewees and respondent as the main data and the secondary data from literatures, books, journal, research result, internet and the other. Methods of data collection is by interview with head of the supervision and arrangement section environmental services in Kulon Progo, using literature study and methods of analysis is done by understanding the assembling or reviewing the data collected systematically. The results of the study show that AMDAL is very useful and help the initiator of AMDAL to analyse the key issues from the constraction. In New Yogyakarta International Airport case, AMDAL is more relevant to decrease the damage of the construction than preventing the damage of the construction.
