Abstract

This thesis is titled, "The Implementation of Women's Right in Political Participation in Indonesia based on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (Case Study in Palangka Raya City, 2014-2019 Period)". The main point of analysis in this thesis is why the level of women's political participation in Indonesia is still relatively low. The purpose of this thesis is to identify the factors that contribute to the low level of women's political participation in Indonesia. This research used a normative legal approach by focusing on positive legal norms that apply. The positive legal norms used are the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, Law Number 2 of 2008 concerning Political Parties, and other regulations relating to the object of this study. As a complement to positive legal norms, this study also used other sources of supporting data in the form of books, journals, the internet, and the results of interviews conducted with knowledgeable individuals. Pursuant to Article 7 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women; to achieve the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, the state is obliged to take all necessary steps and actions to eliminate discrimination against women in the political and public sphere in the country. In Article 20 of Law Number 2 of 2008 concerning Political Parties and in Article 53 of Law Number 10 of 2008 concerning General Elections of the House of Representatives, the Regional Representative Council, and the Regional People's Representative Council. This study presented evidence of state policies that reflect gender injustice, the lack of access given to women regarding information in the political field, the economic dependence factors of women on men, and the small number of young women who are less interested in having a political participation due to limitations cost and time in caring for the family.
