Abstract

This legal research discusses the legal responsibility of the carrier for the completeness of sea transportation documents in the insurance coverage of goods at sea. The problems studied in this legal research become the object of research because the importance of marine insurance to reduce the cost of compensation requires conditions that need to be met, namely in the form of marine transportation documents. So in that case the carrier's responsibility for these documents needs to be discussed and studied further. This legal research method uses normative legal research which is used to examine legal regulations related to the carrier's obligation to complete sea transportation documents in insurance coverage. The results of this legal research can be seen that the carrier is obliged to carry out transportation after the agreement between the carrier and the shipper. To carry out this obligation, the carrier needs to complete certain documents so that the ship used as a means of transportation can operate. The carrier is also required to insure its responsibility, so that the carrier is responsible for the completeness of the documents used for insurance coverage if there is a loss to the cargo. These documents include bills of lading, mate's receipts, manifests, invoices, proof of damage or shortage, letters of subrogation, ship’s diary, and insurance policies.
