Abstract

Facebook has evolved into a major social media platform that accommodates social dynamics across nearly the entire global population, providing users with a space for buying and selling goods or services online, known as the marketplace. However, with the rising popularity of Facebook Marketplace, various cases of fraud by business entities on Facebook's marketplace have emerged, detrimentally affecting consumers who are deprived of what should rightfully be theirs. Frauds on Facebook Marketplace manifest in various forms, from defective goods and counterfeit products to payment scams. Fraudulent business entities often exploit users' needs for affordable and rare items. This research falls under normative legal research, where primary legal materials consist of various legislative regulations and secondary legal materials are derived from expert opinions, journals, and fraud cases by business entities on Facebook's marketplace have emerged, detrimentally affecting consumers who are deprived of what should and books. The accountability of Facebook as the provider of marketplace services in responding to fraud in its marketplace is a matter of great urgency to maintain consumer trust in Facebook. Strengthening policies and oversight related to the dynamics within the marketplace is essential, especially in complying with applicable laws. This accountability not only impacts consumers but also reinforces the platform's integrity as a trusted marketplace.
