Abstract

THE ARCHITECT'S ROLES IN BUILDING REHABILITATION, Sanggam Bonifasius Sihombing, 99.436/PS/MT, October 2000, Majoring in Construction Management, Magister of Engineering, Postgraduate Program, University of Atma Jaya Yogyakarta. This research aims to examine architect's roles in building rehabilitation from design to construction stage. The study also analyzed the relationship between the contributions of the architect's roles and the success of the sampled projects. The architect's roles were examined by using structured questionnaire. A number of architects and contractors were sampled. The study successfully obtained 75 respondents consisting of 34 architects and 41 contractors. The dominant factors of the architect's roles were tested using the Kendall W analysis. The results show that the rank of the factors are as follows : make drawings and specifications, site survey, make certain about quality standard, coordination with client, looking for information about the old building, make certain about the parts if need be modified, creativity design, research building from feasibility to rehabilitation, planning to changes structure, determine work method, determine work team, make work documentation, determine utilized technology, determine time schedule, research on initial evaluation from building cost, determine utilized materials from old building, determine work sequence, determine work regulation, and determine contract type. To establish a model, regression analysis was adopted. The result shows that time schedule is the most influential factors on the success of building rehabilitation projects.
